The 458th Anniversary of The Day Lady Jane Grey Ceased Being Queen.

Lady Jane Grey? Who is that?

To most of the world at large, Lady Jane Grey barely makes a blip on their radar. If they have heard of her at all it was as "The Nine Days Queen", and most of their knowledge of Jane comes from the hugely historically inaccurate movie starring Helena Bonham Carter - "Lady Jane" (see Jane In Movies).

This site is not a history lesson on who Jane was, but how she has been shown in books, illustrations, and other items over the 455 years since that sad day in Feb 1554 when Jane, at only 16 years old, was beheaded as a traitor to the crown. A crown she never aspired to, but was forced to accept.

Since the reclassification of a painting long thought to be Jane as Katherine Parr (see info below) there was thought to be no known portraits to actually depict her as she was in real life, but two recently found paintings may just change that. To learn more about them please go to Life Page 1.

One of the most famous paintings most people associate with her was reclassified as Katherine Parr, Henry VIII's last Queen ( Catherine Parr or Lady Jane Grey?).
