The Lady Jane Grey Internet Museum Poetry

A Girl Named Jane

by Sonja Marie, Written at Age 13, 1986.

(Written after reading "Lady Jane Grey: Reluctant Queen" by Marguerite Vance, my first introduction to the story of Jane.)

There once was a girl named Jane,
Who lived in the Court of Henry VIII.
Who came to the age before her time,
And married before her prime.
She hated the crown with all her might,
and never wanted to wear it with all her heart.
But no mater what she said,
She would wear it anyway.
Her cousin Mary had a reason to cry Treason
Against poor Jane Grey.
She shed some tears
As she signed the warrent with the Tudor seal.
Jane was put in the Tower of London
To Await the day she was to be Executed.
So ended the story of a Queen named Jane.
