The Execution of Lady Jane Grey: Only 16 Years Old : Page 1

On Feb 8th Lady Jane Grey was informed that she was going to be beheaded the next day, Feb 9th. This was later changed to Feb 12th, while Jane was interviewed by Feckenham in the hope that she might convert to Catholicism and therefore be saved from the axe. Jane would not convert of course, and was therefore executed on Feb 12, 1554, at 16 years old. She was buried, along with Lord Guilford Dudley, in the Chapel of St Peter ad Vincula (St. Peter In Chains), it is located within the Tower of London grounds.

A note about her age - many books and many people, even yeoman tour guides at the Tower, state that Lady Jane Grey was 17 when she died. Obviously they don't know their math!

Jane was born in Oct 1537, and died Feb 1554. Yes, 1554 would've been her 17th year, but that would only have been if she had lived until Oct 1554, which she didn't. Jane turned 16 in Oct 1553 while in the tower, and was executed about 4 months later.

Note: As on the Tower Images page, the images of Jane giving her book to Sir John Gage maybe historically inaccurate, most books say she gave the book to Sir John Bridges.

The following are various images based on Jane's walk to the scaffold, and her execution.

Those that belong to My Collection will have in the text section of the image "My Collection" plus what info I know about the image.

Those that I've found in other resources, online, or items I was unable to get, will just have the info I have on it.
