Lady Jane Grey: Her Life & Times - Page 1e:
Lady Jane Grey and Lord Guilford Dudley

There Will Not Be An Update Of The Website Until Feb 12, 2009
I Do Not Have Enough Images For A Worthwhile Update....Sorry!

Lady Jane Grey was born between spring and Oct 1537 at her family home of Bradgate Park. Her father was Henry Grey, the marquess of Dorset and his marchioness Frances Brandon, later Duke and Duchess of Suffolk on the death of Frances' brothers. Frances was the daughter of Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk (one of Henry VIII's best friends) and Mary Rose Tudor, making her the granddaugther of Henry VII and the niece of Henry VIII, this would make Lady Jane Henry VIII's great-niece.

One bit of trivia about Jane's ancestors is that she was the great-great granddaughter of Elizabeth Woodville through her father (from her first marriage to Sir John Grey, 7th Baron Ferrers of Groby) and the great-great granddaughter of Elizabeth through her mother (from her second marriage to Edward IV).

For more information about the life of Lady Jane Grey, please go here.

The following are various images based on Lady Jane Grey and her life. This page concentrates specifically on Lady Jane Grey and her husband Lord Guilford Dudley.

Guilford Dudley was the youngest son of John Dudley, the Duke of Northumberland. The Duke decided to marry his son to Lady Jane Grey so that when he had Edward VI change the succession in favour of Jane, he could rule England through his son and daughter-in-law. They were married on May 25, 1553 at Durham House.

Despite what the movies and fictional books seem to suggest, most historians agree that Jane was not in love with Guilford and at best merely tolerated him. Far from being chivalrous and romantic, the real Guilford seems to have been a petulant, whiney, mama's boy, who didn't appreciate that Jane declared that she would not make him King, unless Parliament agreed. For more information on Lord Guilford Dudley please go here.

Guilford has been played by John Mills in "Tudor Rose (aka "The Nine Day Queen") and Cary Elwes in "Lady Jane". To see images of these cinematic Guildford's please go here. Some of these images have been moved from other pages and sections to this one and in some cases also remain on the original page.

Those that belong to my collection will have in the text section of the image "My Collection" plus what info I know about the image.

Those that I've found in other resources, online, or items I was unable to get, will just have the info I have on it.
